“Where is the cow”? In big herds it can be difficult to find the specific cow you want to observe, 

fetch for the robot or …? By typing the number of the cow the position is shown on a drawing on the 

barn. As CowDetect is based on real time presentations the movement of the cow is shown so she 

cannot play games with you. Your own position is also shown on the screen.

Normally the staff makes several rounds by the cows each day. CowDetect is an important tool in

structuralising these rounds and make them efficient. Typically you want to see the animals with

changed behavior as low and high activity, cows that recently have had calves or other important

animals. You can easily decide which type of animals to focus on by pressing 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 of the keys

with symbols. It is also possible to pre-define rounds that can be called at specific times of the day

or week. This ensures that the decided routines are actually carried out.

It is important that decisions are converted to action in order to obtain results.

“Action” is an important thing in CowDetect and has its own key. This is the space where you as 

manager convert your own observations and the electronically observations into predefined actions 

and actions lists.

Fetch

This feature is typically used to make lists for animals to fetch. It can be cows that newly calved and 

have to be milked under observation in the robots or perhaps animals to be dried of at a specific day 

of the week.

In some countries CowDetect is linked directly to the official Animal Registration.

That ensures that all registrations can be carried out at the same time. No small notes and papers 

that is gone when you need them.

Things are handled at the spot. This feature is not available until spring 2010.

CowDetect automatically generates a list of animals with low activity. It is evident that animals with 

low level of activity are starting to get some kind of problems – she is not feeling well.

The sooner you act the better. Therefore the attention list is generated and the staff making the 

round has to decide – “Action” or “No Action”.  

On this list is also the animals you decided to pay special attention to while making your rounds.

In all herds some animals need more attention than the rest. 

Newly calved animals, potential ketosis, high cell count bad hoofs or ……

If you want an overview for these kinds of animals you can go directly to the list. 

The list is generated from your own decisions regarding “action” and the automatically registrations.

Select

In order to make further inspections or threat the cows it can be convenient to have the animals in 

a specific area. This is easily done by entering the animals on the selection list. 

In that way the animals is separated from the herd when they pas the selection gates in question.
This feature is not available until spring 2010.

Status

Status

By activating the status screen you get a full set of information about the cow from when she entered

the system and till the moment you decide to check.

You simply enter the number of the cow and immediately you see her facts as lactation curves, 

reproduction data and so forth. A short look back makes it easier to decide what to do.
